ZONING & PLANNING Before starting any major construction or building project, please consult with the Township Zoning officer to determine what permits, fees, and other requirements may be needed. Failure to take these steps may result in fines and/or legal proceedings to stop work or remove any un-permitted construction. Planning Commission The Union Township Planning Commission is an advisory committee comprised of five volunteer citizens who are appointed by the Union Township Board of Supervisors to serve a renewable two-year term. The function of this commission is to review zoning ordinances, land development plans, re-zoning requests, and other business pertaining to the growth and development of Union Township. Their opinions are taken into consideration by the Board of Supervisors when official action must be taken to enact or amend ordinances, or approve land development plans. The commission members meet on the First Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm in the Union Township office. Meetings are open to the public. Zoning Hearing Board The Hearing Board meets on an "as-needed" basis in the Union Township office. Meetings are advertised two weeks in advance in the local newspapers as well as on public bulletin boards. They are open to the public, and as with the Supervisors' meeting, all comments and suggestions are welcome during the "public comment" portion of the meeting agenda. Their ruling is taken into consideration by the Board of Supervisors when official action must be taken.
